I started taking yoga classes in my 30’s to calm my mind and strengthen my body. Twenty-two years later, I have used the practice to accept my changing body, redirect my mind, navigate my emotions, trust my intuition, and nourish peace within. Yoga offers a myriad of benefits and is the best practice for the aging body.
Everyone is aging. There is an inevitability to the passing of time. There is not, however, an inevitable decline into rigidity, diminished mobility and mental functioning. The body is not static. And while there is a dance between working with and accepting the body of the day and creating a new vision of aging, we must remember that expectancies determine outcome. Naturally we have to keep moving to stay healthy and cultivate well-being and yoga offers a holistic approach to health, as much a science as a wisdom. It offers an opportunity to balance body, mind, spirit and emotions.
So whether you are middle-aged or a Senior here are just a few of the benefits.
- Maintain a healthy spine
- Improves circulation
- Keeps joints healthy/relieves arthritis
- Lowers blood pressure
- Increases Mental focus
- Stress reduction
- Physical strength, coordination, stamina, mobility
- Improved sleep
- Balance: physical and emotional
- Connection to intuition
- Connection the divine (whatever that means to you)
- Positive outlook; relieves depression/anxiety
