Thai Yoga Massage Workshops and Training Programs
Chris Gordon, CMT, RTT, Experienced and certified yoga instructor has been teaching Thai Massage and leading workshops for the past seven years. He has taken two extensive trips to Thailand and has over 350 additional hours of training and coursework.
Traditional Thai massage was created in India over 2500 years ago by the physician to the Buddha, Dr. Jivaka Kumar Bhacca. It was integrated into the temples and hospitals of Thailand with the transmission of Buddhism from India to Southeast Asia. The treatment consists of rythmic compression with gentle rocking, deep stretching and joint mobilization. Thai Massage is a very effective technique for treating a wide range of conditions. Practitioners have easy access to the body while working in various positions using bodyweight as leverage. Thai Massage is performed on the floor on a mat. The recipient wears loose, comfortable clothing. It is unique in that it works on the muscular/skeletal system as well as the energetic* body.
*Work is done along the Sen lines, which are similar to the meridian lines known in the more familiar practice of Chinese medicine. The lines are worked with a variety of techniques using thumbs, palms, elbows, knees, feet, and whatever else may be available in the moment. Thai Massage is therapeutic bodywork and very effective for treating many different ailments. People often report feeling light and energized after a session as well increased ability to move their bodies freely.
