Emily Smith began practicing yoga shortly after the birth of her first child in 2005. Yoga not only helped rehabilitate her body, but also awakened her to the powerful presence of something much greater than herself. When she began studying with Giselle Mari in 2006 she was introduced to Jivamukti and soon found herself immersed in the practice and study of this dynamic, integrated method. Inspired by her teacher, and with the support of her family, Emily attended the 300-hour Jivamukti Teacher Training in 2011 at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. She savored every moment of the training, receiving the teachings directly from her teachers, Sharon Gannon and David Life, to whom she bows in humble gratitude. She is eternally grateful to her first teacher, Giselle, for providing unconditional love, guidance, and opportunities to assist and be of service. Emily also honors her incredible family and extends love and blessings to the amazing community of Jivamukti teachers around the world who inspire so many.
In a prior incarnation, Emily received a Masters degree in social work at Columbia University and practiced psychiatric social work in NYC for several years before moving West. She was also a musical theater/a cappella geek, and now enjoys leading Jivamukti classes infused with elevating music and beautiful sanskrit song. After 12 years in the SF Bay Area, Emily and her husband, daughter and son now live in Edina and are proud to call Minnesota home.
