Celia was brought to yoga in 2008, when her sister-in-law invited her to join a small class made up of friends. Though the weekly class was at first an excuse to spend time away from her toddler daughter, she quickly found that yoga had much more to offer: her yoga practice brought her confidence in her physical body, clarity of mind and a shape to her spirituality that had yet been undefined. A year and a half into her practice she had the opportunity to sub a Community Education yoga class for her teacher and she was hooked– sharing yoga as a teacher was even better than practicing as a student! Celia enrolled in the 230 hour teacher training at YCM, and completed it in January of 2011. Celia has also taken Jennifer Gray’s JAI prenatal yoga training and had the opportunity to put all of its philosophies into practice while she was pregnant her son.
Teaching Big A#% Yoga classes at YCM is near and dear to Celia’s heart. Having practiced yoga in a larger body herself, she brings personal experience to the studio. She knows first hand how yoga can make any shaped body feel really great, and is dedicated to helping people of all shapes and sizes find a practice that works for them! She wants her students to have calm and quite of mind as well, and likes to balance physical challenge with restorative poses and breath work for a well rounded practice. Her favorite part of teaching is seeing the look of triumph on her students’ faces when they do something that they never thought they could do before they stepped onto their mat.
When not teaching, or parenting, Celia likes to spend her time in the kitchen– cooking and eating! – or in her rocking chair with knitting needles in hand.
