Betsy Weiner

Betsy was introduced to yoga in 1991.  She fell in love immeditaely!  Yes, love at first breath.  Yoga became her life, her filter through which she saw everything.  She has since committed to a lifelong path of learning, teaching and inspiring others along the way.

She started with Ashtanga Yoga and was in love with the pure physicality of the practice.  Soon she noticed the meditative and spiritual benefits and began studying, reading, learning and searching out teachers that would help her on this path.

She met Jennifer Grey at the Yoga Center in 1999 and in 2001 Jennifer became her mentor and encouraged her to get her Ashtanga Certification.  Since then, she has traveled far and wide to study with esteemed teachers in the disciplines of Vinyasa, Gentle Flow, Kriya, Bhakti, Tantra and Thai Yoga Bodywork.  She has studied and completed over 1000 hours of training. Betsy wholeheartedly believes that every person we come into contact with has the potential to be our teacher, this is what is called the upaguru.  That being said, there are special teachers in her life that she would like to give special thanks for inspiring and guiding her, especially Jennifer Grey, YogaRupa Rod Stryker, Rusty Wells,  Dave Romanelli, Jim Bennitt, David Swenson, Doug Swenson, and Johnny Kest.

Betsy was introduced to her teacher, YogaRupa Rod Stryker, and ParaYoga, in 2005. ParaYoga is a part of the Tantric system, a 5000 year old tradition that blends Hatha yoga (asana), pranayama, bandha, mudra, meditation, chanting, kriya, mantra, visualization, and other practices to bring a sense of harmony and balance to its practitioners.  These practices and knowledge continue to inform her teaching and mentoring, as well as positively affecting and guiding her daily life.

Betsy is one of the senior teachers at the Yoga Center  of Minneapolis and participates in teaching the 200, 230, and 500 hour Yoga Study Programs there,  and at the Rochester campus.  She also facilitates Yoga Study groups as well as mentoring teacher trainees.  She has been on faculty in the Yoga Study program since 2003.

Betsy takes what she does seriously, but doesn’t take herself that seriously. She approaches life with curiosity and a beginners mind.  Betsy enjoys spending time outside in nature; in the mountains, at the ocean, whenever possible. She loves traveling, hiking, skiing, surfing, music of all kinds. singing, dancing, cooking, and laughing with friends until she cries.  She is married and has two children who continue to remind her to live in the moment.

“I make it my personal mission, to use these practices and this knowledge to bring joy, freedom, self-awareness and increased happiness.  I feel that I can be a catalyst on the journey of uncovering the True Self that lies within each and every one of us.  My greatest desire as a teacher is for every student to see the Guru, the inner light, that resides within.”
