Getting Started

  • Register online or call us at 612.436.4700.
  • If you’re new to Yoga Center Minneapolis, please complete a New Student Form and bring it to your first visit, or arrive 15 minutes early to fill one when you arrive.
  • Prepare for class.
  • (Note: Teens ages 11 and up are welcome in any of our Beginning Yoga classes with or without parent.)

Absolute Beginner Class (ABC) Series

Cost: $60 for the 4-week series Check class times and register
This class is for those new to yoga. It meets once each week for four weeks, and is designed to provide you with the fundamentals of yoga and get you started on your own personal yoga path. We’ll cover the basics of yoga asana (poses), pranayama (breath work), and provide insight into the various forms of yoga. YCM has always strived to provide the highest quality yoga classes with some of the most experienced and inspiring instructors in the Midwest. Our instructors draw from a vast range of respected yoga traditions; all have exceeded the minimum amount of training and experience required to teach yoga effectively, and many have and trained and taught around the world.

We understand that each student is unique and comes to yoga with different goals and needs. Whether you’re coming to get in better physical condition or simply stop the chaos of your mind, there is a style of yoga that’s right for you. At the end of the four-week series, you will have the opportunity to consult with your instructor about your personal goals and choose the next yoga class(es) that will move you toward these goals.

Beginning Yoga Classes

Cost: $95 for the 6-week series ($90 if you’ve completed a 4-week Absolute Beginner Class series)

Beginning Ashtanga Yoga Check class times and register
This series is for anyone and everyone who is seeking to learn more about the fundamentals of the Ashtanga primary series. We’ll cover: the core poses of Surya Namaskara, the essential standing sequence, seated sequence, proper breathing, pelvic awareness (bandhas), the history of Ashtanga and philosophy. All levels are welcome!

Beginning Yoga for Larger Bodies Check class times and register
This fun and inspiring series is for men and women of all sizes. We call it Yoga for Larger Bodies so everyone knows they’re coming to a place where they can laugh and be comfortable with themselves. This class does not focus on losing weight. Instead, it helps build trust and teaches you to reconnect with your body.

Beginning Hatha Yoga Series Check class times and register
This six-week class is for all beginners and anyone wishing to deepen their foundational knowledge of Hatha Yoga. Each six week class will help you to develop a safe understanding of basic yoga postures, their benefits and help you build confidence to move to the next level!

Beginning Vinyasa Yoga Check class times and register
This six-week Beginning Vinyasa class is for anyone and everyone who is seeking to learn more about the fundamentals of a more rigorous practice that links breath and movement for a moving meditation. Poses are generally held for a shorter period of time so that transitions may become part of the poses themselves. This allows for more poses to be practiced during a class. Generally, these classes are more rigorous than what we term ‘hatha’ classes, and may involve sun salutations. This class will prepare you to attend any vinyasa based style of yoga such as Ashtanga, Slow Flow, Urban Flow, Jivamukti, and more.

Teens ages eleven and up are always welcome in any of our Beginning Yoga classes, with or without a parent.
